LUBBOCK, Texas – Southern Miss men's tennis opened the 2026 spring season with a two-match road swing in Lubbock, falling 5-2 at Texas Tech on Friday before bouncing back with a statement 4-3 win over Lubbock Christian on Saturday.
In Friday's opener against the Red Raiders, the Golden Eagles showed plenty of fight, collecting two points in singles play. Kale Mize set the tone at the top of the lineup with a gritty three-set victory, and Jose Murariu followed with a straight-set win at No. 2 as Southern Miss stayed in the mix throughout the afternoon.
Southern Miss carried that energy into Saturday and delivered a big response against No. 5 Lubbock Christian (Division II). After dropping the doubles point, the Golden Eagles flipped the match with a surge in singles, earning four wins to clinch the team victory. Mize and Murariu backed up their strong opening day performances, while Saheb Sodhi and Olle Noltrop added key wins to push Southern Miss across the finish line, 4-3.
With a split on the weekend and a ranked win in hand, the Golden Eagles head into the next part of the schedule with momentum as the spring season gets underway.
