
Men’s Golf Kicks Off the 2025-26 season after the First Round in a Tie for Sixth Place

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Sophomore Matthew Javier and Freshman Jake Moffitt both shot a two-under 70 at the Argent Financial Classic in Choudrant, La. leading the Golden Eagles to a sixth-place tie
This year marks the 19th time that Southern Miss has played in the event, dating back to first appearing in 2004, hosted by Louisiana Tech. From the 22 years that this event has taken place the Golden Eagles have won twice, once in 2022 and 2023, with coach Eddie Brescher at the helm both times.
The bright spots of day one consisted of Jake Moffitt and Matthew Javier who both posted a two-under-par 70. The duo is tied for 10th place with the conclusion of the opening round, leading the Golden Eagles to shoot 286 and two-under-par on the day.
Benjamin Fernandez, a junior, dropped a one-under-par 71 which slots him in tied for 22nd place with fellow junior Supakorn Amornchaichan who rounds out the team score with a three-over-par 75. Senior Will Burnham collects a three-over-par 75.
