
Volleyball Opens Second Road Weekend at Molly Howard-Gerwig Memorial Tournament

HOUSTON, Texas – Southern Miss volleyball (2-1, 0-0 SBC) enters its second consecutive road weekend, heading west to Houston to play in the Molly Howard-Gerwig Memorial Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Golden Eagles will face Bethune-Cookman at 12:30 p.m. Friday, followed by host Houston Christian at 6:30 p.m. Saturday closes out with a final match against St. Thomas at 11 a.m.
Southern Miss heads into the weekend after a 2-1 finish in the Stetson Hatters Invitational in DeLand, Fla. With wins over Lamar and Stetson, the Golden Eagles finished with a total of 132 kills, 124 assists and 202 digs, leading the Sun Belt with 20.20 digs per set following opening weekend. Juniors Sadie McAda and Sunni Sheppard were named to the all-tournament team.
Looking at this weekend's opponents, Bethune-Cookman (2-1, 0-0 SWAC) enters Friday's match with a win over Coppin State and a tight 3-2 victory over Elon on opening weekend. Houston Christian (0-3, 0-0 Southland) kicks off its home slate after three losses in the Lobo Invitational at New Mexico. St. Thomas (6-3, 0-0 Sun Conference) enters the weekend after a 2-1 run at the Florida College Invitational.
