Golden Eagles Net Two in Home Draw with Jackson State

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Soccer (0-5-1, 0-0-0 SBC) earned its first result of the season on Wednesday evening, battling to a 2-2 draw with Jackson State (1-4-1, 0-0-0 SWAC) at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex. The Golden Eagles also celebrated their first multi-goal performance of 2025, sparking energy from the home crowd.
The match opened with early action as Jackson State struck in the third minute through Kaila Tablado. Southern Miss responded quickly, leveling the score at 1-1 in the 19th minute when Rhyleigh Marks converted off an assist from Raquelle Mitchell, marking her first goal of the season.
After the Tigers regained the lead early in the second half on a strike from Sarah Portis, the Golden Eagles showed resilience. In the 75th minute, Ryan Smith calmly converted from the penalty spot, notching her second goal in as many games and bringing Southern Miss level once again.
Southern Miss recorded 12 total shots, with seven on target, and forced the Jackson State keeper into five saves. Mitchell led the attacking front with three attempts, while Marks and Smith each finished with goals. Goalkeeper Maddie Ellis anchored the back line with three saves, including two in the second half to preserve the draw.
