Southern Miss Continues to Build in Conference Action

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's soccer (2-8-1, 1-3-0 SBC) showed resolve and bright moments but ultimately fell to Old Dominion (6-1-3, 2-0-2 SBC) on Sunday afternoon at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.
The Golden Eagles punched back early as Raquelle Mitchell leveled the match in the 15th minute, her second of the season, finishing cleanly off a composed setup from Eduarda Flores Fuculo to make it 1–1 and energize the home crowd.
Old Dominion's pressure asked questions throughout, but Southern Miss continued to compete across the full 90. The goalkeeping tandem of Maddie Ellis and Lena Blake combined for 11 saves (Ellis 2 in the first half; Blake 9 after the break), turning away a flurry of second-half attempts to keep the contest within reach. Led by a disciplined back line, the Golden Eagles also caught the Monarchs offside nine times, reflecting an organized shape and well-timed line management against a high-volume attack (31 shots, 20 on target).
Offensively, Southern Miss generated four shots with two on goal, including a late look from Chloe Taylor that forced a stop, while fresh legs off the bench helped the Eagles continue to press in transition. Avery Aldrette drew the match's lone caution as Southern Miss maintained a competitive edge down the stretch.
Despite the score line, the performance offered positives to build on, an early equalizer, a resilient second-half response in goal, and a back line willing to step, hold and recover against one of the Sun Belt's most efficient front lines. Southern Miss will look to carry that mentality forward as conference play continues.
