
Golden Eagles Place Tied for Second in Opening Round of JT Poston Invitational

Waynesville, N.C. – The Golden Eagles open the JT Poston Invitational hosted by Western Carolina with a tied-for second place five-under 275 at the conclusion of round one with Jake Moffitt striking again with a four-under 66 for Southern Miss.
Jake Moffitt opens the day on hole 10, which is a par five, with a birdie and picking up two additional birdies through the front nine with a bogey setting a two-under 34. Moffitt ends the day with five birdies and placed in third individually.
Matthew Javier and Will Burnham both shot two-under 68, ranking them in a seven-way tie for seventh on the day with the pair picking up three birdies. Burnham secures an eagle on hole six, a par five, which is described as a short and uphill course with difficult slopes on the green.
With the conclusion of day one, Southern Miss tied for second, with host Western Carolina, trailing only Drexel with a score of seven-under 273 with two more days remaining. The Golden Eagles collected 17 birdies as a whole with nine birdies coming from the back nine holes.
