The Golden Eagles enter the midweek matchup following a narrow 1-0 setback to Ole Miss in Sunday's home opener. Southern Miss created several dangerous opportunities in the second half, including shots on target from Lorilee Taylor and Rhyleigh Marks, but could not find the equalizer. Goalkeepers Maddie Ellis and Lena Blake combined for eight saves, holding the Rebels to just one goal on 11 attempts.
Mississippi Valley State, led by head coach Alexandra Roberts, looks to start after opening the season with two games being canceled back-to-back. The Devilettes feature a youthful lineup and will rely on speed and physicality as they search for their first win of the year.
Thursday marks the 12th all-time meeting between the programs, with Southern Miss holding a commanding 10-1 advantage. The Golden Eagles have won eight straight in the series, including a 5-0 shutout in last year's meeting in Hattiesburg.
