HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss incoming freshman Jake Moffitt (Ripley, Miss.) will be one of 312 men's golfers that will compete in the 123rd United States Amateur Championship starting Monday at the Olympic Club in San Francisco, Calif.
The event, which runs from Aug. 11-17, will take place at the Lake (7,214-yard, par 70) and Ocean (6,787-yard, par 70) courses over the week and the event will start with stroke play of 18 holes each of the first two days.
The top 64 golfers from the first two days will then start match play starting with the round of 64 competitions on Aug. 13. The rounds of 32 and 16 matches then take place, Aug. 14, before the quarterfinal round (Aug. 15) and semifinal rounds (Aug. 16). The 36-hole championship match will complete the event, Sunday, Aug. 17.
Moffitt qualified for the evening by winning the Mississippi State Amateur Championship at Grand Bear Golf Club in Saucier earlier this summer. Moffitt shot a 21-under par for 72 holes and won by 10 shots. Both Moffitt's 72-hole score and his victory margin set State Am records. Moffitt's final round of nine-under-par 63 – 10 pars, 7 birdies and an eagle – was just one off the Grand Bear course record of 62, shot by 10-time PGA TOUR champion Steve Elkington in a Champions Tour tournament in 2022.
The winner of the U.S. Amateur Championship will receive a gold medal, exemptions in the next 10 US Amateurs, the 2026 U.S Open at Shinnecock Hills Country Club in Southampton, N.Y., the 2026 Open Championship and a likely invitation to the 2026 Masters Tournament.
Moffitt starts his quest for the championship at 10:13 am CT as he tees off at Hole 1 of the Ocean Course.
Television coverage will be provided by both Peacock and the Golf Channel during the event.
