HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss starting pitcher JB Middleton (Yazoo City, Miss.) and second baseman Nick Monistere (Brandon, Miss.) were each named second team All-American by media outlet D1Baseball.com.
Middleton, this year's Ferriss Trophy winner for top collegiate baseball player in the state of Mississippi, earned his fifth All-America honor, garnering a first team spot by both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) and Perfect Game, while also being named second team by ABCA/Rawlings and third team by Baseball America.
The first team All-Sun Belt selection ended the 2025 campaign with a 10-1 record and a 2.31 ERA. He also struck out 122 and walked 25 in 105 1/3 innings, while only allowing 65 hits. He finished No. 2 in the final national rankings in WHIP (0.85), fifth in hits allowed per nine innings (5.55), seventh in strikeouts, ninth in ERA and No. 11 in wins.
Monistere, the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, collected his third All-American acknowledgment after also earning first team honors by the NCBWA and third team by Baseball America.
The Southern Miss second baseman finished with a .323 average with 21 home runs and 72 RBI, leading both his team and Sun Belt Conference in both homer and RBI categories. His season home run total tied him for ninth on the school chart and his RBI total is the most by a Golden Eagle in a season since Reed Trimble collected that many during the 2021 campaign. He also ranked No. 15 nationally in home runs.
They are the first selections by the website since Tanner Hall collected first-team honors in 2023 and the first time since 2022 when Hall recorded first-team honors that year as well, along with Hurston Waldrep, who was picked to the third team.
The Golden Eagle duo will now likely each get taken in next month's MLB First-Year Player Draft, set for July 13-14, in Atlanta, Ga.
