Track and Field Posts Strong Weekend Across Pair of Meets; Palomino Rises to 19th Nationally

BATON ROUGE, La. – Southern Miss track and field turned in a strong weekend with standout performances across two meets, highlighted by Zayne Palomino's first-place finish in the high jump at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet. Palomino cleared 2.18m, a mark that secured the win and moved him up to 19th nationally in NCAA Division I rankings.

At LSU, on the women's side, Jaellene Burgess captured the 800m title with 2:06.29, pacing a strong middle-distance group that saw Kaylin Jackson finish fourth (2:15.48). Cadence Lapp earned a runner-up finish in the 3000m, clocking a 10:04.29, while the 4x400m relay team of Burgess, Addison McLaurin, Taliyah Lindsay and Kennedi Sanders placed fourth overall with a time of 3:36.51. In the field events, Sidney Allen finished fourth in the long jump (5.80m), and Alana Simon and Jelese Alexander tied for fifth in the high jump (1.74m).

On the men's side, Zayne Palomino cleared 2.18m to win the high jump, a mark that ranks 19th nationally in Division I. Javel Fullerton also captured a victory, running 51.01 to win the 400m hurdles. Piers Cameron added a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 17.69m, and Conner Mozee placed fourth in the discus (52.73m).

A group of Golden Eagles also headed to Mobile, Alabama, over the weekend to compete in the Jaguar Invitational, hosted by South Alabama on Sunday.

Sierra Edwards headlined the women's performances at the meet by winning the 100m hurdles in 13.68 seconds. Kristina Stojanovic added a win in the 800m (2:18.24), and Amia Wright posted strong sprint performances with a third-place finish in the 200m (25.20) and fourth in the 100m (12.03). Kaitlyn McRee took third in the 400m hurdles (1:05.72).
