BATON ROUGE, La. – The Southern Miss track and field team will travel to Baton Rouge this weekend to compete in the LSU Alumni Gold meet at Bernie Moore Stadium on Saturday.
Last weekend, Javel Fullerton etched his name into the Southern Miss record books, breaking the school record in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 50.85 seconds. His performance highlighted the Golden Eagles' showing at the Crimson Tide Invitational and earned him first place in the event — one of the team's two wins against Southeastern Conference and Sun Belt opponents.
On the women's side, the 4x400-meter relay team of Jaellene Burgess, Addison McLaurin, Taliyah Lindsay and Kennedi Sanders captured gold with a time of 3:38.77. In the field events, Alana Simon continued her strong season with a second-place finish in the high jump (1.75 meters), while Joidon Boddie was runner-up in the triple jump (12.25 meters). On the men's side, Kelsey Singleton placed second in the 400 (46.51), and Zayne Palomino cleared 2.05 meters to finish third in the high jump.
Sanders has played a key role in all three of Southern Miss' Sun Belt-leading times. She leads the conference in the 400 with a time of 53.15 seconds and also competes in both the 4x100 (44.62) with Lindsay, Tacherria Lawson and Valencia Watson, as well as the 4x400 (3:38.77) relays.
Field events are scheduled to begin with the women's hammer throw at 10 a.m. and conclude with the women's javelin at 4 p.m. Running events will start with the women's 4x100 relay at 12:30 p.m. and finish with the men's 1,600 relay at 5:50 p.m.
