HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss Softball (18-17, 5-3 Sun Belt) wraps up its midweek slate with a road matchup against Nicholls (15-20, 6-6 Southland) on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT at Swanner Field at Geo Surfaces Park in Thibodaux, La.

Southern Miss enters the contest following a historic series win over South Alabama. The Golden Eagles secured back-to-back victories against the Jaguars for the first time in program history, rallying for a 5-4 win on Friday before locking down a 3-1 victory Saturday. While Sunday's game was canceled due to inclement weather, Southern Miss recorded its first consecutive Sun Belt series wins and its first overall since 2019.
The Golden Eagles now aim for their third victory over Nicholls this season. Southern Miss has dominated the season series, outscoring the Colonels 17-4 with a 7-0 shutout at the LSU Invitational and a 10-4 win in Hattiesburg earlier in March.

- Southern Miss' 2.67 ERA in conference play ranks third in the conference, trailing only South Alabama and Georgia Southern. The Golden Eagles have held conference opponents to a .245 average, the second lowest in the Sun Belt. Kayla Giardina leads the staff with a 1.62 ERA in conference play (4th Sun Belt), followed by Natalie Herrington's 1.85 ERA (5th Sun Belt).
- Freshman outfielder Hannah Christian leads the Golden Eagles with 34 hits, 20 runs and 13 walks, while ranking sixth in the league with ten stolen bases.
- Faith Kivett drew a career-high two walks at South Alabama on Friday. Kivett's nine walks rank as the fourth most on the team.
- Junior outfielder Shelby Allen made her third start of the season Saturday against South Alabama, leading the Golden Eagles to the series win with a career-high three hits. Defensively, Allen tallied a career-high six putouts in center field.
- Senior infielder Maddie Weeks led the Golden Eagles with four hits last week, batting at .571 with a .714 slugging percentage. Weeks recorded a career-high three hits Friday, including a leadoff double in the seventh inning to lead Southern Miss to a 5-4 comeback win against South Alabama. The game marked her ninth multi-hit performance, the most on the team. Her 20 RBI and 46 total bases lead the team.
- Giardina tossed four innings at South Alabama on Saturday, picking up her second career save. Giardina paces the Golden Eagles pitching staff with a 3.25 ERA on the season. Her 62 strikeouts rank second among freshmen in the league, trailing only Georgia Southern pitcher Maddie Johnson's 83 strikeouts.
- Senior designated player Jana Lee enters historic territory with 37 career doubles, one shy of tying former teammate Hannah Borden's 38 doubles for the fifth most in program history. With five doubles on the season already, Lee is five doubles away from tying the program record (42).
Scouting Nicholls
- Nicholls is led by first-year head coach Ron Frost. After serving as an assistant coach with the Colonels for three years, he was promoted to head coach following the 2024 season.
- Nicholls' .307 team batting average ranks second in the Southland Conference. Offensively, the team ranks third in the league with 285 hits, including a second-best 55 doubles. Claire Sisco ranks second in the league with 47 hits, batting .470 with a .690 slugging percentage. Her 15 doubles and 18 walks lead the league.
- The Colonels are on a five-game winning streak, outscoring opponents 47-11 during their homestand. Nicholls swept its doubleheader against Jackson State on Wednesday and then swept Lamar in a conference series, improving the team's home record to 8-2 this season.
- Molly VandenBout was named the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week for the second time in her career. In five wins last week, VandenBout led the Colonels with a .647 batting average with 14 RBI, five doubles and two home runs.
- Molly Yoo leads the Nicholls pitching staff with a 4.13 ERA over 79 innings.

- Nicholls leads the all-time series 44-20, but the Golden Eagles have won the last three meetings and seven of the last ten.
