
Golden Eagles Top Leaderboard Following Round One in Puerto Rico

HUMACAO, P.R. --Â The Southern Miss women's golf team is in a two-way tie for first after the first round of play at The Puerto Rico Shootout at Palmas Del Mar CC Flamboya Course in Humacao.Â
The Golden Eagles fired a one-under 287 as a team, which put them in a tie for the top spot with UNC Greensboro. Southern Miss was led by Louise Cuyvers' career-low 69. The freshman fired her second round of under-par golf this season after posting a 71 during the first round of The Judson back in October. Cuyvers drained four birdies, including a string of three over a five-hole stretch on the back nine.Â
Taylor Trible added an even-par round as she birdied three-straight holes to open the back nine. She finished with a team-high six birdies on day one. Alma Betoret and Momoka Ando both shot a one-over 73 to sit in a tie for 17th. Betoret accounted for four of Southern Miss' 17 birdies, while Ando had two. Elena Melich finished with a three-over 75 to sit tied for 30th.
James Madison trails the Golden Eagles and Spartans by two strokes, while Florida Gulf Coast and Boston College round out the top five. The second round will tee off at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday with a shotgun. The final round will be on Wednesday with a similar start time.Â
