
Men’s Golf Ties for 11th at Seminole Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Sophomore Benjamin Fernandez (Asuncion, Paraguay) shot a final round, one-under 69 to help Southern Miss place tied for 11th at the Seminole Intercollegiate Tuesday at Thomasville, Ga.
Playing at the par 70, 6,816-yard Glen Arven Country Club, Fernandez ended his 54-hole tournament with an even par 210 total, which placed him tied for 14th. Playing in only his third tournament for the Golden Eagles, he has scored at par or below in six of his nine rounds, which includes a Monday second-round score of 68.
Freshman Matthew Javier (Toronto, Ontario) helped the Golden Eagles finish by shooting an even-par 70 to end his event with a four-over 214, which tied him for 30th.
A final-round 73 for redshirt sophomore Walker Wise (Tupelo, Miss.) enabled him to post a 219 overall, which placed him in a 58th-place tie, while junior Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.) added a third-round 74 to finish with a 220 overall score and a 66th-place tie. Senior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.) rounded out the Golden Eagle scorers with a circuit of 75 to end his event with a 224 and a 73rd-place tie.
The Golden Eagles shot a final team round of 286 to finish tied with Arkansas with a final stroke total of 862.
Host Florida State won the event with a 23-under 817, beating second-place Troy (829) by 12 strokes. Both Augusta and North Florida tied for third at 834, while Florida Gulf Coast finished fifth at 837.
The Golden Eagles return to action March 17-18 at the All American Collegiate in Houston, Texas.
