
Men’s Golf Tied for 11th After Opening Day at Seminole Intercollegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Sophomore Benjamin Fernandez (Asuncion, Paraguay) shot rounds of 73 and 68 to lead Southern Miss over the first 36 holes of the Seminole Intercollegiate at the Glen Arven Country Club Monday in Thomasville, Ga.
When play was suspended with three teams left on the course Monday evening, the Golden Eagles held an 11th-place tie by scoring rounds of 289 and 287, posting a 36-hole score of 576.
Fernandez's 68 was the lowest round for Southern Miss on the par 70, 6,818-yard course for a two-round score of 141 and a 22nd-place tie. He was followed by freshman Matthew Javier (Toronto, Ontario), who collected a pair of 72s for a 144 and a 43rd-place tie.
Junior Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.) and redshirt sophomore Walker Wise (Tupelo, Miss.) both posted a 36-hole 146 for a 55th-place tie. Burnham fired 71 and 75, while Wise shot a 74 and 72. Senior Ryan Dupuy rounded out the Golden Eagles' scoring with rounds of 73 and 76 for a 149 and in 73rd place.
Host Florida State leads the team standings by shooting a 16-under 544. Troy ranks second at 546, while North Alabama is third at 563.
The final round takes place Tuesday morning following the completion of the second round by Augusta, Florida Atlantic and Lipscomb. Fans can follow the live scoring by clicking here.
