
Four Golden Eagles Shoot Under Par to Push Southern Miss into Third Place at Dorado Beach Collegiate

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Four Southern Miss men's golfer shot under par Monday to give the Golden Eagles a 10-under team score for the second round, pushing the squad up four spots to third place at the Dorado Beach Collegiate in Dorado, Puerto Rico.
The Golden Eagles shot a 278 behind a 68 from freshman Matthew Javier (Toronto, Ontario), a 69 from senior Ryan Dupuy (Baton Rouge, La.), a 70 from sophomore Benjamin Fernandez (Asuncion, Paraguay) and a 71 from junior Will Burnham (Jackson, Miss.) at the par 72, 7,119-yard Sugarcane course at the TPC Dorado Beach.
Three Southern Miss golfers currently sit in the top 10 with Fernandez tied for fifth by posting a seven-under 137 over two rounds. Dupuy ranks tied for seventh, just one stroke behind Fernandez with a 138, and Javier holds a 10th-place tie with a five-under 139.
Burnham hold a two-over 146 through 36 holes, while Filip Sakota posted a 78 for his second round for a 153 and 87th-place tie. Walker Wise, a redshirt-junior from Tupelo, Miss., and playing as an individual, shot an 80 over his second round for a 152 and an 86th-place showing.
The Golden Eagles pulled within eight strokes of leader and tournament host UNCG, which has a 36-hole total of 552, followed by Illinois State at 556 and Southern Miss at 560. Both Connecticut and Loyola Maryland are tied for fourth at 563, followed by Temple and Wofford at 568, Winthrop (570), James Madison (574), Ball State (577), Army West Point (581), George Mason (582), Bryant (586), Valparaiso (587), Old Dominion (589) and App State (591).
The event concludes Tuesday when the final 18 holes set to take place starting at 6 a.m. CT.
