Golden Eagles Top Arkansas State to Claim Third at Great River Cup

GULFPORT— The Southern Miss women's golf team cruised to a 3.5-1.5 win over Arkansas State on Tuesday afternoon to claim third place at the Great River Cup.
The Golden Eagles finished 2-1 at Windance Country Club following a 4-1 win over Memphis and a 3-2 defeat to James Madison on Monday. The Golden Eagles got a decisive win from Elena Melich as she beat Olivia Colt, 4&2, this morning. Melich used two birdies on the back nine to pull ahead as Colt carded four consecutive bogies. They also got a win from Momoka Ando, who beat Madison Tenore, 4&3. Ando birdies a trio of holes as she played even-par on the remaining holes.
On the individual side of the event, Fernanda Gorostiaga secured a 3&1 win over James Madison's Amber Mackiewicz. Gorostiaga clinched the win as Mackiewicz bogeyed the seventh hole. Ragini Navet tied A-State's Morgan Beaulieu in an individual match. Navet was 1Up heading into the final hole before ending with a bogey, which evened the match thanks to a Beaulieu par.
Southern Miss returns to action on March 4 as it travels to Puerto Rico for the Palmsa Athletic Club at Palmas del Mar in Humacao.
