Men's Basketball Opens New Year at ULM on Thursday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- Southern Miss (7-7, 1-1 Sun Belt) continues its swing through Louisiana and returns to Sun Belt action on Thursday as it opens the new year at ULM (3-11, 0-2 Sun Belt). The old rivals will square off for the 46th time overall at 4 p.m. inside Fant-Ewing Coliseum in Monroe, La.

- Tylik Weeks upped his scoring average to 17.3 points per game after scoring 25 against Arkansas State before the holiday break. Brewer Carruth added a career-high 16 points in the seven-point loss to preseason favorites Arkansas State
- Southern Miss won its Sun Belt opener against Louisiana, 62-54, in a low-scoring affair. Israel Hart dropped a season-best 17 points in the win
- Weeks posted his first career double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds against Ole Miss — the rebound total was a career best
- The Golden Eagles picked up a 68-60 win over Grambling on last Monday, with Southern Miss coming back from a halftime deficit
- Weeks was named the Sun Belt Player of the Week as he took home MVP honors at the Pensacola Invitational
- Outside of an 11-point deficit at the half against North Florida, Southern Miss dominated the Pensacola Invitational and took home its second MTE title under Jay Ladner
- Weeks scored 37 points in the win over North Florida, which was the 11th-most in program history and the second-most by any Sun Belt player since the 2022-23 season

ABOUT THE OPPONENT
-ULM is off to a 3-11 start with wins over Rust, Mississippi Valley and Arkansas Baptist. The Warhawks took South Alabama to double overtime in the Sun Belt opener before losing by four. ULM then lost to Louisiana two days after Southern Miss opened league play with a win over the Cajuns
- MJ Russell leads the pack in scoring, averaging 17.1 points, placing him fifth in the Sun Belt. He also leads the team in blocks (1.1) and minutes (36.3). Krystian Lewis averages three assists and 1.7 steals to lead the team. Lavell Brodnexhas collected 106 rebounds across 11 games, averaging 9.6 to lead the Warhawks and rank second in the conference. Brodnex leads the conference in offensive rebounds (3.6) and is second in defensive rebounds (6.2)
- On December 17 against South Alabama, ULM hit 19 three-pointers, 12 coming in the first half. The 19 triples is a team-high across all Sun Belt teams this season, Krystian Lewis claiming the Sun Belt high with eight triples on Wednesday.

Ayomide Bamisile takes the cake, being the farthest from home, as Monroe is 6,301 miles from Lagos, Nigeria.
