Dennis & Michalska Complete First Day at AVCA Pair National Championships

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Southern Miss beach volleyball's Laurel Dennis and Zuzanna Michalska completed their first day at the AVCA Beach Volleyball Pair National Championships today at the John Hunt Sand Volleyball Complex.
The pair of Golden Eagles entered the day as the 52nd overall seed and opened against California's A-team and 13th seed. The Golden Bears handed the Golden Eagles a 2-0 defeat in 21-12, 21-14 fashion to send Southern Miss to the elimination bracket.
The Golden Eagle duo then faced off against No. 45 Washington (B) and took the first set 21-19. Washington fought back to win set two 21-19 to force a third, where the Huskies' pair won 15-7 to advance and knock Southern Miss down to the 49th place bracket.
Southern Miss will open play tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. against No. 61 Palm Beach Atlantic in the 49th place bracket. A win sends them to take on the winner of No. 53 Georgia State and No. 60 UT Martin (A) at 4:45 p.m. while a loss drops them to the 57th place bracket to take on the loser of GSU/UTM at 4:45 p.m.
