HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Starting pitcher Kros Sivley twirled three innings of one-hit baseball as Team Gold cruised to a 7-2 victory over Team Black in game two of the 2025 Southern Miss Baseball Fall World Series Monday night at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
Gold's Braden Maranto (Amory, Miss.) drove in the first runs of the game with a two-RBI single in the second inning. Maranto scored later in the frame thanks to an RBI-single from Drey Barrett (Holtville, Ala.) to give the visiting team a 3-0 advantage midway through two innings.
Sivley (Sumrall, Miss.) allowed a leadoff walk and then a base hit for the second Black Team baserunner of the second inning before escaping thanks to an inning-ending double play turned by Maranto. Sivley finished his night in the next frame, striking out three of the 10 batters he faced.
Ahead of Sivley's relief, Gold tacked on another run thanks to an RBI knock from leadoff man Joey Urban (Jupiter, Fla.) that scored William Tonsmeire (Vestavia Hills, Ala.). Sophomore righthander Camden Sunstrom (Baton Rouge, La.) took over for Sivley and gave Gold two complete innings of work, rallying back to finish the fifth inning after allowing the first four batters of the frame to reach base.
Team Black touched Sunstrom for two runs in the fifth off a Matthew Russo (Madisonville, La.) two-RBI base hit. The home team's rally came off the heels of 2 2/3 innings of work from Sam Mitchell (Baton Rouge, La.) who came in in relief of Team Black with two baserunners and one out in the third. After escaping the jam with just one run scoring, he threw two scoreless innings, sitting down six batters and his only baserunner reaching via an error.
After Mitchell's replacement in the sixth, Gold scored two more runs to lead 6-2 thanks to a hit-by-pitch, single, two walks and a wild pitch. Tucker Stockman (Athens, Ala.) led off the top of the seventh inning with a 389-foot, 101 mile-per-hour rocket to left centerfield. Teague Brodhead tossed two scoreless innings to close out the win as Gold took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
The Black and Gold teams will be back for game three of the Fall World Series tomorrow night with first pitch at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field set for 5 p.m. Admission is free for all fans.
