Volleyball Suits Up for Pair of Matches at South Alabama

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss volleyball heads over to Mobile, Alabama to battle against South Alabama on Friday, October 17, and Saturday, October 18th. Friday's match will begin at 6 p.m., while First Serve on Saturday is at 1 p.m.
The Golden Eagles (13-4, 5-1 SBC) head into the weekend after a pair of wins against Louisiana on Friday and Saturday in the Wellness Center. Friday's match was a 3-0 sweep, while the Golden Eagles posted a 3-1 win Saturday afternoon. Sadie McAda led the team with 15 kills, 22 digs, and four block assists for her 10th double-double of the season. Brynn Botkin added 11 kills, 14 digs, and one ace, while Lillie Johnson posted nine kills and a block. Elly Stewart finished with eight kills and a team-high six block assists, and Aubrey Judd added seven kills and five total blocks.
Nationally, Brynn Botkin ranks fifth in the nation this week in aces per set with .67 aces per set and is tied for 34 total aces this season. As a team, the Golden Eagles sit 11th in both 1.98 aces per set and 17.24 digs per set. In the Sun Belt, the team leads the conference in total aces with 115 and aces per set with 1.98, as well as leading with 17.24 digs per set. Southern Miss ranks 2nd with 17.41 points per set.
The Jags (10-7, 5-1 SBC) head into conference play after a 1-1 split in a pair of five-set thrillers against Texas State. Southern Miss currently sits first in the west, while South Alabama is second. They are led by head coach Jesse Ortiz, who is currently in his fifth season with the Jags.
