Volleyball falls in Three to Finish Mississippi State Series

STARKVILLE, Miss.- Southern Miss Volleyball finished with a three-set loss to Mississippi State to close out the two-match series Friday afternoon.
The Bulldogs come out swinging in set one, posting a 16-3 run. Izzy Kronenberg earns a kill,
Sadie McAda and Torrey Tkach earn a block as well during the set.
Ultimately, Mississippi State took control of the set, finishing 25-8.
Southern Miss returns to fight in the second set, earning 12 kills. Tkach and Dalogullari were key contributors to those kills.
Dalogullari adds a kill on a Bulldog overpass to make it 11-16.
Kronenberg earns a kill paired with an ace from Dalogullari and Bulldog hitting error to make the score 14-19.
The Golden Eagles fight to hold Mississippi State, with Francesca Panunzio spreading the offense.
Despite a more competitive set, the Bulldogs take the set 25-18.
Set three starts out competitive, with strategic swings from Dalogullari and McAda.
Southern Miss battled hard in the third set, staying within reach of Mississippi State.
Tkach led the attack with key kills, and the Golden Eagles managed to keep the score close, tying the game at 8-8.
The Golden Eagles have good defense and make good defensive plays, including a block from McAda and Tkach and defensive digs from libero Sunni Sheppard.
Tkach capitalizes on a blocking error from the Bulldogs to make the score 10-12.
The Bulldogs respond. with an 8-1 run to advance the score to 20-11.
Back-to-back blocks by McAda and Tkach and an ace from Sheppard push the score to 17-22.
However, Mississippi State pulled away late in the set with steady offensive plays. The set ended 25-19, sealing the match.
Tkach led the Golden Eagles with 8 kills in the match as well as 5 block assists and a solo block.
Sheppard racked up 13 digs as the defensive anchor for the Golden Eagles.
Panunzio had 14 assists overall. Hayden Riddle was not far behind her with 9.
The Golden Eagles fall to 4-8 overall (0-0 SBC), while Mississippi State advances to 6-3 (0-0 SEC).
The Golden Eagles will head to Monroe, Louisiana, to begin Sun Belt Conference play against Louisiana Monroe on Friday, September 27th, at 6 p.m., followed by a 2 pm match on Saturday, September 28.
