Volleyball Falls to Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss.- The Southern Miss Golden Eagles fall 1-3 in a match against Mississippi on Thursday evening in Starkville.
The beginning of the match started with back-and-forth play, including a block by Izzy Kronenberg and Madison Baldridge.
A pair of aces from Aysu Dalogullari makes her presence known from the service line.
Torrey Tkach came out swinging, earning five kills in the set.
While the Bulldogs make solid offensive plays, Sadie McAda and Sunni Sheppard make it difficult for them to score with their good defensive reads.
With the score 24-23, Tkach earns a solo stuff block to end the set 25-23.
Tkach maintains her presence throughout the beginning of set two.
A kill by Kronenberg, along with an ace from Sheppard, a service error from the Bulldogs, and another stuff block by Tkach, made it a four-point run for the score to 15-12.
The Golden Eagles capitalize on a kill from Dalogullari and a service error from the Bulldogs to make it 19-17.
Mississippi State responds accordingly, taking the lead in the set 21-19 on a four-point run.
Southern Miss pushes back after capitalizing on two Bulldog errors, but Mississippi State takes the set 25-22.
The Golden Eagles start set three with a block from Baldridge and Kronenberg combined with an ace from Dalogullari to make the score 3-0.
The Golden Eagles work hard on the offense with strategic shots from Sadie McAda paired with kills from Dalogullari.
The Bulldogs battle back to try to tie the score, but a pair of errors and a block from Tkach and McAda keep the score 14-11.
The Bulldogs responded, earning an 8-1 run to take the lead at 19-15.
With a pair of kills from Dalogullari and a Bulldog error, the Golden Eagles push for an 18-19 score.
Ultimately, the Bulldogs kept tough, taking the set 25-21.
The two teams keep it close during the beginning of the fourth set, with the score 6-6. The Bulldogs earned a two-point run, making the score 8-6.
Freshman Kaylee Lowther and Sheppard continue to make solid defensive digs for the Golden Eagles.
The Bulldogs continue to run a smooth offense, making a 6-1 run to force the score 14-7.
While the Golden Eagles fought to battle back with blocks from Tkach and McAda, the Bulldogs maintained control of the momentum, clinching the match with a 25-14 score.
Sheppard maintained a high-level defensive presence, finishing with 19 digs.
Dalogullari led the team with 13 kills. She also earned 16 digs, earning herself a double-double.
McAda also finished with a double-double with 12 kills and 17 digs.
Francesca Panunzio finished the match with 39 assists.
The Golden Eagles will compete again tomorrow against Mississippi State in a 3 p.m. match to finish the two-game series.
