Football Travels to Jax State for Final Non-Conference Regular Season Tilt in 2024

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss football team travels to Jacksonville, Ala., for its final non-conference road test of the season, Saturday, when they face Jax State in a 2 p.m. contest.
The game can be seen on ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network and with audio only through SouthernMiss.com.
The Golden Eagles (1-2) look to rebound from a 49-24 defeat to USF at home last weekend, while the Gamecocks (0-3) dropped their third-straight game to open the season in a 37-34 double overtime loss at Eastern Michigan.
Through the first three games, quarterback Tate Rodemaker has led the way with 425 passing yards and four touchdown passes with only a pair of interceptions.
Three Golden Eagle receivers have collected over 100 yards receiving this season, led by Larry Simmons with 190 yards, followed by Ti Mims who has 142 yards on a team-high 10 receptions, while Kyirin Heath has notched 118 yards.
On the ground, Dreke Clark leads the rushing attach with 122 yards, following by Kenyon Clay with 82.
On defense, Tre' Pinkney leads the squad with 20 tackles, followed by Dylan Lawrence, who has 17 and pair of interceptions on the year.
The meeting between the schools is the first in 78 years this weekend as the teams also plays for the first time in Jacksonville.
The Golden Eagles lead the series 2-0 having outscored the Gamecocks 123-0 over the last two games - winning 58-0 in Hattiesburg in 1937 and 65-0 in 1946.
The Gamecocks are now part of Conference USA and are the second school from that league Southern Miss has played since departing it following the 2021 campaign. The Golden Eagles defeated Rice 38-24 in the 2022 LendingTree Bowl.
