Volleyball Sweeps Jackson State

JACKSON, Miss.- Southern Miss Volleyball sweeps Jackson State in a 3-0 match on Wednesday night.
Both teams remained neck and neck throughout the matches, starting with set one. The score was tied multiple times.
After the score reached 11-11, Southern Miss pulled ahead with a series of kills from Aysu Dalogullari and Izzy Kronenberg, and a service ace by Lindsey Smith.
Southern Miss had a comfortable lead at 22-17, but the Tigers fought back, closing the gap to 23-22 with strong offensive plays.
Southern Miss persisted to clinch the set 25-22 with a kill by Torrey Tkach.
Southern Miss starts strong in the second set with an early 7-3 lead with kills from Tkach and Brynn Botkin, plus more service aces from Smith.
Jackson State rallied back, closing the gap to make it 16-15.
A crucial block from Madison Baldridge and a kill by Dalogullari to extend the lead to 18-15.
After keeping it close to tie the game 22-22, Southern Miss held their nerve, securing the set 25-23 with a key kill by Francesca Panunzio to finish the set 25-23.
Set three proved to be the most competitive of the three set matches.
The Golden Eagles got a step ahead at 14-12 after an attack error from the opponent and a kill from Dalogullari.
With the score tied at 24-24, the Tigers used momentum from the home crowd and took the lead at 25-24.
Southern Miss responded with a block from Panunzio and Tkach, followed by a match-clinching kill by Tkach to win 28-26.
Southern Miss's ability to maintain a solid offense and respond well to opposing attacks served them well in helping them earn the sweep.
Smith earned herself a career-high three aces in the match. Her serves, along with Sunni Sheppard's 21 digs, were essential for the success of the Golden Eagles.
Dalogullari earned herself a double-double, leading the team with 14 kills and 10 digs.
Panunzio also had a double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs.
Southern Miss advances to 4-6 (0-0 SBC), while Jackson State drops to (0-0 SWAC).
The Golden Eagles will face off against Mississippi State in a 6 p.m. match tomorrow in Starkville.
