HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss Athletic Department officially opened the Giddis Golf Center on Friday afternoon with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the standalone golf facility located at the Hattiesburg Country Club.
"This really got started by John Miller and Brian Morrison asking me to get involved," Giddis said. "This was one way for me to give back to a school I care so much about. This is going to help from a recruiting perspective and take the program to a higher level."
The 3,500 square-foot golf center now gives the Southern Miss men's and women's golf teams one of the premier golf facilities in all of Division I golf. The facility also features an indoor putting lab with full club repair capabilities, a teaching bay to feature fitting equipment, as well as video swing analysis software and TrackMan in each hitting bay. The addition of a new tee box on the west side of the golf center will also take place, expanding the driving range distance to 340 yards.
Available for Southern Miss men's and women's golfers is TrackMan 4, a state-of-the-art technology that provides data points for nearly every movement in a golf swing. The dual radar system tracks and records not only the swing, but also the ball characteristics after contact. The newly opened facility also features Swing Catalyst Software powered by TrackMan that provides the opportunity to record every golf shot - linked with TrackMan - to see the student-athletes swing correlated with the data. The facility is home to a Golf Mechanix - Lie/Loft Machine, club repair station, regripping station, and a nutrition corner.
The facility is named after lead donors Kevin and Sareh Giddis. Kevin Giddis, who signed to play golf at Southern Miss in 1979 for coach Danny Montgomery and whose collegiate career was hampered due to injury, is a retired financial service professional and a 1983 graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi with a B.B.A. in Banking and Finance.
The Hattiesburg County Club is listed as the No. 1 private course in Mississippi via the 2023 Golfweek State Course rankings.
