Men’s Golf Pair Named Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss men's golfers Thongpipat Rattanayanon (Bangkok, Thailand) and Bennett Ruby (Waterloo, Ontario) were named to the 2023-24 Cobalt Golf Division I All-America Scholars Tuesday morning by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
An individual must be at least a sophomore in both academic and athletic standing and must participate in 50 percent of their team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 in NCAA Division I, while maintaining a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2 to be eligible for the award. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.
Rattanayanon, who finished his Golden Eagle career this spring, posted a 73.84 stroke average over 32 rounds his final season with a Top 10 finish. Over his career, Rattanayanon ended with a 73.19 stroke average over 122 rounds with five Top 10 finishes over his five-year career. He opened his 2022 season with his lone individual victory at the Jim Rivers Collegiate.
Ruby, who also completed his eligibility this spring, recorded a 75.05 stroke average over 20 rounds and posted his lone career Top 10 finish at the Hal Williams Collegiate in Mobile, Ala., this past spring. He enjoyed 54 career rounds in his four-year career with a 75.78 scoring average.
Rattanayanon completed his career with his third-straight Scholar All-America honor, while this was the first for Ruby.
This year marks the 10th in a row that Southern Miss men's golf enjoyed at least on GCAA All-America Scholar and the fifth consecutive year that they enjoy multiple recipients.
