HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball program again utilizes the best summer league programs for its players as nine are expected to see action over the next couple of months to help in their player development for the future.
The Golden Eagles have three players that will see action in the Cape Cod League before the end of summer as outfielder Davis Gillespie has enjoyed a solid start for the Bourne Braves, hitting .313 (5x16) with a double in four games. Pitchers Drake Meeks and Josh Och will report to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks later in the summer.
There are three Golden Eagles that will see action for the Holly Springs (N.C.) Salamanders, as catcher Lawson Odom and pitcher Landen Payne have appeared in games. Pitcher JW Armistead is expected to report later in the summer.
Southern Miss also has a pair of Golden Eagles participating in the New England Collegiate Baseball League. Pitcher Jake Cook is playing for the Ocean State Waves, while pitcher Cal Culpepper has enjoyed a solid start for the Upper Valley Nighthawks.
One other current Golden Eagle, Tucker Stockman, is playing for the Thunder Bay (Ontario) Border Cats in the Northwoods League.
These leagues run through early August, before school returns to session in the fall.
