Outdoor Track and Field Complete Meet at Crimson Tide Invitational Saturday

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss outdoor track and field team captured five first-place finishes, as well as establishing one school record, Friday and Saturday, at the Crimson Tide Invitational hosted by the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
The Golden Eagle women captured four event titles including the 4x400 relay team of Trinity Benson, Jada McDougle, Addison McLaurin and Savi'a Varnell, which posted a school-record time of 3:35.33.
Alana Simon won the high jump with a try of 1.75 meters on her first attempt at the mark, while her teammate Jelese Alexander, who also reached that height, did so on her third try to finish second in the event.
Za'Isha Fraser captured the triple jump with a leap of 12.64 meters, while the 4x100 women's relay team consisting of Trinity Flagler, McDougle, Varnell and Benson with a time of 44.07.
On the men's side, Zayne Palomino won the high jump with a mark of 2.17 meters.
In all, Southern Miss captured 25 top eight shows – 13 for the women and 12 for the men – as the squad continues to ready themselves for the Sun Belt Conference championships next month.
The Golden Eagles return to action April 20 at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet in Baton Rouge, La.
