Billy Oldham Named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Senior right-hander Billy Oldham (Brookfield, Conn.) earned Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week honors Tuesday afternoon after putting up a gem at Louisiana last weekend.
Oldham limited the Ragin' Cajuns to five hits and one walk over seven-plus innings, while registering a career-high 10 strikeouts.
After pitching to the minimum of hitters through the first two innings, the Cajuns loaded the bases with two outs in the third, but he worked out of the jam. He also allowed a one-out single in the fourth but retired the next eight batters before giving up a leadoff hit to open the seventh. He followed that hit surrendered by fanning the next three hitters.
Oldham then started the eighth by allowing a hit by pitch and a single and left the contest without surrendering a run on his own. A subsequent relief pitcher gave up a home run that accounted for his two runs surrendered in the contest.
The award is the first Sun Belt weekly honor for Oldham as the third Golden Eagles captured the Pitcher of the Week nod in 2024. Both Niko Mazza and Will Armistead already won the award this season.
The Golden Eagles (27-17) return to action this evening when they play New Orleans at 6 p.m., at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field.
