Outdoor Track and Field Plays Host to Golden Eagle Invitational This Weekend

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss outdoor track and field team plays host to their final regular season meet with the Golden Eagle Invitational set for Friday and Saturday at the Marshall Bell Track and Field Complex.
The meet will start at 2 p.m., Friday with the triple jump, hammer throw and javelin competitions for both the men and women. Saturday's field events start at 10 a.m., with the 3000 meters race getting things going at 12:10 p.m. for the track events.
This will be the last time meet before the Golden Eagles travel to Monroe, La., for the Sun Belt Conference Championships, set for May 9-11.
In their last outing, Southern Miss collect 17 top eight finishes last Saturday at the LSU Alumni Gold Meet. Seven of those were accomplished on the women's side, including three from Jada McDougle, which finished second in the 200 meters with a 23.061, fourth as a leg in the 4x100 relay with a 44.03 and sixth in the 100 meters with an 11.42. Those feats earned her Sun Belt Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week.
Ten top eight finishes came on the men's side as De'Aundre Ward finished third in the long jump with a mark of 7.64 meters, while also serving as a leg on the 4x100 relay team that placed eighth with a 40.85. Kingsley Unorji was also a member of the 4x100 team, while also placing sixth in the 100 meters with a 10.30.
