
Ando Finishes As Top Golden Eagle at SBC Championships

POINT CLEAR, Ala. – The Southern Miss women's golf team had its season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon following the conclusion of the third round at the Sun Belt Championships. The Golden Eagles finished eighth as a team at Lakewood Golf Course.
"I am incredibly proud of the fight from our group this week," said head coach Lucy Nunn Burke. Taylor [Trible] stepped up to the challenge and I am incredibly proud of her heart. While we got bit by the things that have plagued us all year, this group learned so much that is only going to make them better moving forward."
Momoka Ando finished as the highest Southern Miss golfer after posting a one-under 71 during the final stroke play round. Ando started her day with an eagle on the opening hole and then added three more birdies to her round en route to finishing in a tie for 17th. Merche Corbacho finished tied for 23rd after a six-over 78 today.
Elena Melich enjoyed a two-over 74 that was paired with a trio of birdies. The junior finished in a tie for 31st on the individual leaderboard. Jacee Fields slid into a tie for 46th after an eight-over 80 today. Taylor Trible slid into Wednesday lineup and shined with a one-under 70 during her lone round of the tournament. Trible's round was the lowest of the senior for the Birmingham, Ala. native.
With Ando's 54-hole score of 222, she posted the lowest single-season individual stroke average in program history. She set the previous record last season after averaging 73.6 strokes per round and then had a breakout campaign this year where she averaged 72.9 strokes per round.
Texas State, Georgia Southern, ULM and Old Dominion moved on to Thursday's match play round where the conference champion will be determined.
