
Golden Eagles Fall to Texas State at Sun Belt Tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla. – A 75-59 loss from the hands of Texas State at the 2024 Hercules Tire Sun Belt Championships brought an end to the season for the Southern Miss men's basketball team.
The Golden Eagles (16-16, 9-9 Sun Belt) were paced by Victor Hart's 20 points and nine rebounds, while Austin Crowley added 16 points. Both played in their final game donning the Black and Gold.
Texas State (16-17, 7-11 Sun Belt) held Southern Miss at bay early in the ballgame before the sixth-seeded Golden Eagles hit six consecutive shots to take a two-point lead. Unfortunately, it was the last time Southern Miss had the advantage in the scoring column. The Bobcats went on to finish the half on an 18-7 run and held a 34-23 lead at the half.
The deficit peaked at 20 before Southern Miss was able to cut it down to 10 with three minutes left. The Bobcats answered right back, though and held off a late rally from the Golden Eagles. Texas State shot 46.4 percent from the floor and were held to only two three-pointers. Meanwhile, Southern Miss shot 40.7 percent from the floor and went 4-for-16 from deep.
Andre Curbelo finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Victor Iwuakor continued his quest to climb the Southern Miss record book in the block category as the senior added five to his season total.
With its win, Texas State advances to face Troy on Saturday at 5 p.m. Southern Miss finished the season with a 16-16 mark.
