Lady Eagles Open Sun Belt Tournament Against Coastal Carolina

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Southern Miss women's basketball returns to Pensacola, Fla., for the 2024 Hercules Tire Sun Belt Conference Women's Basketball Tournament as the sixth-overall seed in the field. The Lady Eagles will face 11-seed Coastal Carolina on Wednesday, March 6, at 5 p.m. at the Pensacola Bay Center.
LAST TIME OUT
Southern Miss fell to 17-12 on the year and 10-8 in Sun Belt Conference play after a 58-57 overtime loss at Louisiana to end the 2023-24 regular season. The loss locked up the sixth-overall seed for Southern Miss and ensured a date with either Coastal Carolina or South Alabama.
Domonique Davis (DeRidder, La.) moved into eight all-time for points scored as a Lady Eagle after posting her 25th game of the season with double figures for the 76th such game of her career. It was also her 15th time scoring 20+ to move her career mark to 34 games with 20-or-more.
ABOUT COASTAL CAROLINA
The Chanticleers (12-20, 5-13 Sun Belt) entered the tournament as the 11th seed after posting a 5-13 record. Coastal did finish the season 3-1 down the stretch and has now won four of their last five after holding off (14) South Alabama 79-60.
Head coach Kevin Pederson is in his second season for the Chanticleers and holds a 26-36 record in Conway.

Survive and advance is the name of the game for Southern Miss. If and when the Lady Eagle defeat Coastal Carolina, they will advance to the quarterfinals of the tournament and take on three-seed James Madison on Friday, March 8.
