Golden Eagles Improve to 4-4 on the Year After Final Day at Tiger Beach Challenge

BATON ROUGE, La. – A 4-1 decision over Central Arkansas marked Southern Miss beach volleyball's fourth win of the year, moving the Golden Eagles to 4-4 overall after a 5-0 loss to Texas A&M – Corpus Christi earlier today.
 
Southern Miss (4-4, 1-0 Sun Belt) opened day two of the Tiger Beach Challenge against (RV) Texas A&M – Corpus Christi who just last year qualified for the NCAA Beach Volleyball Championships in Gulf Shores. The Islanders finished 3-1 on the weekend and improved to 7-2 overall, falling only to host and nationally-ranked LSU.
 
TAMU-CC took four of their five points in straight sets except at the second pairing where Sadie McAda and Laurel Dennis took set two 21-17. The 2s narrowly fell in the decisive third set with a 15-10 decision falling in the Islanders' favor.
 
The Tiger Beach Challenge ended with a bout against Central Arkansas, who finished 0-4 on the weekend. The Beach Bears fell to 0-8 on the year after a 4-1 loss to Southern Miss.
 
The Golden Eagles collected wins in just two sets at four different pairs, winning at the 1s, 2s, 4s 5s as well as on the exhibition. Ola Chudzik/Sarah Murczek, McAda/Dennis, Ashlyn Rough/Dylan Russell and Morgan Perry/Jessica Fairly won at the top flight and at the remaining scoring duals. Wiio Meinheit and Carmen Sanchez Delgado picked up the win at the exhibition as well.

Southern Miss heads west for the two-day Beach Invitational in Long Beach, Calif. The Golden Eagles open play on Saturday, March 9, against the homestanding Beach of Long Beach State, who entered this past week ranked ninth in the AVCA Coaches Poll.
