Men's Basketball Falls to a Hot-Shooting South Alabama Team

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – In its final weekday game of the season at Reed Green Coliseum, Southern Miss (15-13, 8-7 Sun Belt) men's basketball fell 83-64 to South Alabama (14-14, 6-9 Sun Belt) on Thursday night.
Victor Hart made his first start since January 11 and finished with a 13-point, 12-rebound double-double. The Golden Eagles also got a team-high 14 points from Cobie Montgomery and another 11 points from Austin Crowley.
The Jaguars used a big second half to pull away from Southern Miss after the Golden Eagles within eight on two separate occasions. The first was after a Hart and Victor Iwuakor scoring spurt six minutes into the second half, and the second was on a Crowley triple with seven minutes left.
On both instances, South Alabama answered with a 5-0 run and a 10-0 run, respectively. The Jaguars shot 56.5 percent in the second half and 52.1 percent for the game. More notably, they shot 8-of-13 from deep. Southern Miss was limited to a 34.9 shooting clip and only went 2-of-14 from deep.
The Golden Eagles managed to outrebound South Alabama and did so 13-4 on the offensive glass. They also forced 16 Jaguar turnovers and recorded six blocks.
Southern Miss will host Louisiana on Saturday night at 6 p.m. in the final home game of the season. As part of senior night, the Golden Eagles will honor Donovan Ivory, Mo Arnold, Victor Iwuakor, Tate Ryder, Hart and Crowley.
