HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Twenty-six Southern Miss players participate in their final home game Saturday as the Golden Eagles welcome South Alabama to Carlisle-Faulkner Field at M.M. Roberts Stadium for a Sun Belt Conference West Division contest.
Game time is set for 2 p.m., and can be seen via ESPN+, as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network and through SouthernMiss.com.
Four players of the 26 who will be honored prior to the game, who have played their entire collegiate careers in the Black and Gold, include place kicker Andrew Stein (Slidell, La.), defensive lineman Kristin Booth (Oxford, Ala.), defensive back Jay Jones (Demopolis, Ala.) and running back Chandler Pittman (Magee, Miss.).
Stein registered 175 career points in his career, which includes converted 35-of-48 field goals, including a long of 52 yards, to go along with 70-of-74 extra point tries. He also has been utilized as a kickoff specialist during his time with the program.
Booth, who has played in more games than any other current Golden Eagle with 46, has registered 81 career tackles (35 solos) with 8.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks over his four seasons with the team.
Jones has seen action in 38 contests and has posted 87 tackles (43 solo) with 4.5 career tackles for loss. He will forever be remembered for blocking a punt at Tulane in a 27-24 during the 2022 campaign in New Orleans.
Pittman accounted for 399 all-purpose yards during his career in which he threw one touchdown and caught three others. His biggest play likely came when he caught a 52-yard pass for a touchdown in the final minute of the game to win at Texas State in 2022.
Another senior, Bryce Lofton of Sand Hill, Miss., earned the school's choice as its Conerly Trophy representative on the strength of being the Sun Belt's top punter with a 45.0 yard per punt average over 51 boots. Lofton currently has the third-best punting season in Golden Eagle history, trailing only Ray Guy who has the top two season averages.
The remainder of the group that will be honored prior to the game includes LB Desmyn Baker (Clinton, Miss.), OL Ethan Bumgarner (West Point, Miss.), DB Micheal Caraway, Jr. (Bassfield, Miss.), RB Dreke Clark (Starkville, Miss.), DL Jalil Clemons (Macon, Miss.), OL Zack Conti (Trenton, Mich), WR Dannis Jackson (Sumrall, Miss.), LB Ryan Johnson (Starkville, Miss.), DB Dylan Lawrence (Lucedale, Miss.), DL Brodarius Lewis (Prattville, Ala.), OL Dontae Lucas (Overton, Fla.), DB Ques McNeal (Ackerman, Miss.), WR Chandler Merrill (Vestavia Hills, Ala.), LS Brennen Milliron (Hoover, Ala.), LB Tre Pinkney (Atlanta, Ga.), DB Hayes Puckett (Madison, Miss.), DL Demeco Roland (Broken Arrow, Okla.), LB Ja'Len Sims (Birmingham, Ala.), PK Jack Tannehill (Oxford, Miss.) and DL Jalen Williams (Tylertown, Miss.).
The Golden Eagles will also honor defensive back MJ Daniels (Lucedale, Miss.) posthumously, who lost his life during the summer.
The game marks the fifth contest between the two schools, which are separated by less than 90 miles via US-98. Southern Miss still looks for its first victory in the series. They lost 55-3 in Mobile last season.
