Southern Miss Volleyball Faces Coastal Carolina in Sun Belt Tournament Opener

FOLEY, Ala. – Southern Miss volleyball is set to take on Coastal Carolina in the first round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at the Foley Events Center.
The Golden Eagles fell to Marshall in straight sets last Friday at the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, West Virginia. Despite the loss, Southern Miss showcased strong performances in blocking, serving, and defense. Sadie McAda led the match with 15 kills, while Sunni Sheppard recorded 20 digs. Francesca Panunzio and Torrey Tkach each tallied two blocks, with Panunzio also contributing a team-high 26 assists.
Southern Miss enters the tournament as the fifth seed with a 9-19 (5-10 Sun Belt) record and will face fourth-seeded Coastal Carolina, which holds a 12-16 (7-9 Sun Belt) record.
The teams are closely matched statistically, but Southern Miss holds the edge in digs per set (17.5 to 14.2) and blocks per set (2.2 to 1.9). Sheppard and Tkach are key players for the Golden Eagle defense, heavily contributing to the team's numbers.
