Golden Eagles Geared Up for AVCA Central Qualifier

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Pairs from the Southern Miss beach volleyball team will participate in the AVCA Central Zone Qualification Tournament this weekend in Huntsville, Ala. Three bids to the AVCA Pairs National Championship are up for grabs between the stacked field of competition.
Southern Miss' pairs are joined by pairs from Austin Peay, Central Arkansas, Chattanooga, Eastern Kentucky, Georgia State, Mercer, North Alabama, Southeastern, Tulane, UAB and UT Martin.
Duals between the field will begin tomorrow, Nov. 2, at 8 a.m. and last until 6 p.m. Day two of the tournament is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3. The top three winning pairs in the bid division will earn a bid to the AVCA Pairs National Championship in Huntsville, Ala., scheduled for Nov. 15-17.
In the bid division, Southern Miss' Kitija Martini and Zuzanna Michalska received the No. 11 seed while Y-Nhu Do and Dylan Russell were named the No. 21 seed.
Martini/Michalska begin play in pool three at 9 a.m. against a pair from UT Martin. They then play at 11:30 a.m. based on their results. Do/Russell are in pool six and begin pool play at 10:15 a.m. with their second match set for 12:45 p.m. The top 16 pairs out of pool play advance to the bid division beginning at 3 p.m.
Also in action this weekend, Kenzie Boyd and Jaden White and Carmen Sanchez Delgado and Ryann Thomas will be playing in the open division. Both pairs start play at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
