
Volleyball Heads to San Marcos to Compete Against Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Golden Eagles hit the road to San Marcos to play against Texas State in two conference matches this weekend at Strahan Arena. Friday's match will be at 6 p.m., while Saturday's match will be at 2 p.m.
Southern Miss closed out its series of matches last weekend with a four-set win against Old Dominion on Saturday. Southern Miss advanced to 9-13 (5-5 SBC), while Old Dominion fell to 15-6 (4-4). Aysu Dalogullari led with 19 kills, while Lillie Johnson tallied three service aces. Defensively, Sadie McAda recorded 20 digs, and Torrey Tkach finished with eight blocks. Francesca Panunzio led the match with 20 assists, achieving her 1,000th career-assist milestone.
The Golden Eagles have made their mark nationally, earning spots on the NCAA leaderboards. Southern Miss ranks 20th in digs per set with 17.12. Sunni Sheppard is currently 11th in digs per set with 5.15 and 12th overall with 433 digs. Tkach is 47th in the nation in blocks per set, tied for 22nd in solo blocks with 12, and tied for 17th in total blocks with 107.
In the Sun Belt, the Golden Eagles lead the conference with 171 block assists and 1,438 digs. Southern Miss holds second place in digs per set at 17.12. Panunzio and Hayden Riddle rank eighth and ninth in assists per set, with Panunzio at 6.88 and Riddle at 6.29. Sheppard is the only player in the Sun Belt Conference with four or more matches of 30+ digs and has the second-highest single-match digs this season, with 36 against Arkansas State.
The Bobcats return home after two wins against ULM, sitting third in the Sun Belt West Division, while the Golden Eagles are in fourth. From an overall standpoint, Southern Miss leads in several categories, including aces (119-93), digs (1,438-1,129), digs per set (17.1-14.9), and block assists (314-280).
