Volleyball Falls in Three to Texas State

SAN MARCOS, Texas — Southern Miss suffered a 3-0 loss against Texas State on Friday night in San Marcos.
Set one opened with Texas State on an 8-1 run. Southern Miss responded with kills from Aysu Dalogullari, along with an ace and a kill by Lillie Johnson, attempting to close the gap to 11-5. Despite additional kills from Madison Baldridge and Sadie McAda, the Bobcats overpowered with kills, finishing the set 25-16.
Set two began with Texas State holding a steady advantage. Torrey Tkach kept Texas State's defense on its heels with strong play, trying to level the score at 8-4. The Golden Eagles maintained a defensive presence with a block from Johnson and Baldridge and a kill from McAda to regain momentum, but Texas State closed out the set 25-10.
Southern Miss found its rhythm in set three, which ended narrowly at 25-23. While Texas State took an early lead, the Golden Eagles fought to tie the score at 9-9 with kills from Tkach and Izzy Kronenberg. Hayden Riddle and Francesca Panunzio distributed the ball across the net, allowing the Golden Eagles to take a 21-18 lead. Both teams continued to battle with hustle plays, but the Bobcats earned a final kill to take the set, 25-23, and secure the match.
Johnson led the match with seven kills and five blocks, while Riddle finished with 15 assists. Sunni Sheppard recorded 14 digs.
The Golden Eagles will face Texas State again tomorrow at 2 p.m. to close out the two-match weekend in San Marcos. The match will be available on ESPN+.
