Volleyball Hosts Old Dominion in Week Five of Conference Play

HATTIESBURG, Miss.– The Golden Eagles are set to host Old Dominion in two conference matches this weekend at the Wellness Center. Friday's match will be played at 6 p.m., themed around the Eras Tour. Saturday's match will be at noon, with a vacation volleyball theme.
Southern Miss volleyball closed out its series of matches this weekend with a four-set loss to South Alabama on Friday. Southern Miss falls to 8-12 (4-4 SBC), while South Alabama advances to 10-8 (6-2). Sadie McAda and Aysu Dalogullari both finished with 14 kills in the match. Francesca Panunzio tallied 36 assists, while Sunni Sheppard recorded 22 digs. Panunzio and Torrey Tkach each earned two blocks.
The Monarchs head to Hattiesburg after two 2-3 losses last week at Georgia State. Southern Miss leads in digs (1325-1065), digs per set (17.1-14.0), block assists (288-254), and blocks per set (2.2-2.1).
Torrey Tkach has made her mark on the national scope, tied for 42nd in the nation for blocks per set with Rebekah Allick of Nebraska. She is tied for 21st for the most solo blocks in the nation with 12 and tied for 15th for most total blocks with 99.
Sheppard is the only player in the Sun Belt Conference to have three or more matches with 30+ digs. She also has the second-highest number of digs in a match, with 36 against Arkansas State.
Panunzio is currently headed towards her 1000th career assist, with 988 total assists.
Looking into the Sun Belt, the Golden Eagles take second in the conference, totaling 171. Southern Miss leads the Sun Belt with the most cumulative digs this season and is second in the Sun Belt for most digs per set with 17.21.
