Soccer Makes Trip to Arkansas State for Sunday Conference Contest

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-After completing a three-game home stand, Southern Miss prepares for a road test at Arkansas State (3-4-3, 0-3-1 Sun Belt) Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Golden Eagles fought off a potential home loss late in Thursday's match against Marshall, scoring two goals in the last five minutes to even the score at 3-3 and earn a conference point with the draw.
Sophomore Rebeka Vega closed the gap in the 85th minute, striking the ball for her second goal of the season, assisted from a corner cross by Adaira Nakano.
As Southern Miss rushed for another opportunity with a minute remaining, Marshall goalkeeper Alexis Wolgemuth deflected a shot from Raquelle Mitchell, sending the ball back into play in a crowded box. Redshirt junior Alice Williamson stepped up, sending the ball into the back of the net for the equalizer with 53 seconds left.
Mitchell scored the first goal of the game for the Golden Eagles in the 19th minute, which was also assisted by Nakano, who registered her first multi-assist game of her career.
Southern Miss stayed persistent on the attack throughout the match, outshooting Marshall 17-11 on the way to its comeback.
Now, the Golden Eagles head to Jonesboro, Ark. to face Arkansas State, who are coming off of a 2-0 shutout loss at ULM Thursday.

- By earning a conference point Thursday against Marshall, Southern Miss moved to 11th in conference standings, sitting only one game behind three teams in the conference. The Golden Eagles are fifth in the West Division.
- Mitchell scored in her second consecutive game with her early goal Thursday versus Marshall, bringing her season total to a team-high four goals, the most by a Golden Eagle freshman in the first ten games of a season since Illana Izquierdo's six in 2021.
