Soccer Set for Afternoon Match Up Against #12 Alabama Thursday

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss Soccer team (2-3-0, 0-0-0 SBC) is set to face No.12 Alabama (4-0-2, 0-0-0 SEC) on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex.Â
The Crimson Tide holds a 6-1-0 advantage in their all-time series, which dates back to 1997. The Golden Eagles' sole victory came in 1999, during the last Hattiesburg encounter, when they secured a thrilling 4-3Â overtime win.
Last time out:  In their recent match against No.22 Georgia, the Black and Gold fell 4-0, as the Bulldogs scored three goals in the first half. The Golden Eagles headed into halftime trailing 3-0, with more scoring opportunities being made in the second half, but only one of the five shots were on target. The final goal of the afternoon came in the 49th minute to secure the Georgia shutout. The combined efforts of Alex Helbling, Maddie Ellis, and Kesaia Bruni resulted in six saves in the net.Â
Scouting Alabama: The Crimson Tide enters Thursday's matchup with an 4-0-2 overall record. They recently had two consecutive scoreless ties against Samford and the University of Miami, marking the program's first back-to-back ties in history. Alabama dominated the first half against Samford, outshooting them 11-6. However, Samford had 14 shots in the second half compared to Alabama's four. Coralie Lallier made four saves as midfielder Isabel Smith led the charge with four shots, three of which were on goal. The Tide is under the leadership of ninth-season head coach Wes Hart.
