HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss Soccer team (2-4-0, 0-0-0 SBC) suffered their second shutout of the season against No. 12 Alabama (5-0-2, 0-0-0 SEC) 2-0 at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex Thursday evening.
The Crimson Tide started the game with their first shot within the first six minutes of play but unfortunately, the attempt missed the mark as it sailed over the crossbar. Two minutes later, Alabama's defender, Marianna Annest, seized an opportunity following a foul just outside the box. She expertly maneuvered the ball through the crowd and into the left corner of the net.
Fifteen minutes later, the Tide secured their second and final goal courtesy of forward Gianna Paul. The Golden Eagles found their sole scoring chance in the first half immediately afterward when midfielder Adaira Nakano took a shot from just outside the box, but it too sailed over the top.
Alabama maintained control of the ball throughout the game, tallying eight shots compared to Southern Miss's meager two attempts. Marissa House managed the second shot for the Black and Gold in the 53rd minute of action, the only one to test the Alabama keeper.
Next Up: Southern Miss will be back in action this Sunday at 1 p.m. against Nicholls State at the Southern Miss Soccer Complex. Live stats and streaming will be available on ESPN+.
