Soccer Continues on the Road to LSU

HATTIESBURG, Miss.-- The Southern Miss Soccer team heads to Baton Rouge, La., to find its first win in non-conference play on Sunday at 4 p.m. against LSU. The game will be available for streaming on SECN+.
This is the seventh meeting between the two programs. LSU continued their series lead with a 3-1 feat when they met in Hattiesburg last season.
Last time out: The Black and Gold started their season against Ole Miss, receiving a 2-0 loss. Evie Ewing secured the game-winning goal shattering the deadlock in the 50th minute of play with a well-placed shot from her right foot that found the bottom right corner of the net. The second Rebel goal was from a converted penalty kick, placing the ball into the top right corner of the net 20 minutes before the end of the period. The Black and Gold made several crosses inside the box in the last few minutes of the frame but could not ruin the shutout. Although the Rebels had an eight-shot advantage, newcomers Emilie Torres, Marissa House, and Chloe Taylor took charge for their Black and Gold debut and attempted five shots, three of which were on target.
Scouting LSU: The Tigers enter the weekend following a 1-0 loss to South Florida in their season opener at the LSU Soccer Stadium. LSU started strong in the first six minutes of play, firing a shot on frame after assistance from a fellow Tiger, but it could not beat the keeper. South Florida left the half ahead of the LSU, scoring off a corner kick. The Tigers tried to make a few more opportunities but could not capitalize.
Five members were named to the SEC Preseason watch list Mollie Baker, Maya Gordon, Ida Hermannsdóttir, Rammie Noel, and Mollee Swift. The Tigers are under the direction of Sian Hudson, heading into her fourth season.
