HATTIEBURG, Miss. – Over the last two weeks, three former Southern Miss baseball players have made their professional debuts with two of those already earning promotion within their respective organizations.
The four players that were drafted last month off the 2023 team that finished 46-20 and reached a Super Regional for the second consecutive year, include right-hander pitcher Tanner Hall, left-handed pitcher Justin Storm, outfielder Matthew Etzel and shortstop Dustin Dickerson.
While Hall has not made his debut yet in the Rookie League classification for the Florida Coast League (FCL) Twins, Storm has thrown three times over the last two weeks for the FCL Marlins. Both Etzel and Dickerson both started for the FCL and Arizona League rookie clubs, respectively, but both have been promoted due to hot starts.
Etzel earned a trip to Single A Delmarva in the Carolina League. Since his promotion, Etzel has played in five games and posted a .364 batting average with two home runs and nine RBI. He has also stolen six bases and enjoys a 1.073 OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage).
Dickerson made a two-stop jump, landing in High A for the Quad Cities River Bandits in the Midwest League. In his first four games for them, Dickerson is hitting .240 with a homer and three RBI.
