HATTIEBURG, Miss. – Over the past week, there has been much movement with former Southern Miss players and affiliated professional baseball.
During that time, one player returned to Major League Baseball, and one was promoted to Double-A, while four others were taken in the 2023 MLB Draft.
Matt Wallner, who made his MLB debut last season, got called up for the third time this season Saturday for the Minnesota Twins.
One other former Golden Eagle pitcher, Tyler Stuart, earned a promotion to Double-A with the New York Mets, moving from Brooklyn to Binghamton. In his debut with the Rumble Ponies, Stuart held Somerset to a run on five hits over six innings with a walk and five strikeouts but did not record a decision in the contest. In 2023 at two levels, Stuart has combined to post a 4-0 record in 81 2/3 innings, allowing 15 runs (14 earned) on 61 hits and 24 walks with 89 strikeouts.
Both Tanner Hall and Justin Storm, who were key pieces to 2023 run to the NCAA Super Regional this past month, have both signed with their respective clubs that drafted them. Hall was taken in the fourth round by Minnesota, while Storm was a seventh-round pick by Miami. Both Dustin Dickerson (Kansas City) and Matthew Etzel (Baltimore) were also taken in the draft earlier this month, but neither had signed as of Monday afternoon.
The following is a listing of current Golden Eagles playing in affiliated professional baseball:
