HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Southern Miss baseball team plays its final non-conference contest of the regular season when they entertain Tulane, Tuesday, at Pete Taylor Park/Hill Denson Field. Game time is 6 p.m.
The game can be seen via ESPN+ as well as heard on an affiliate of the Southern Miss Sports Network.
The Golden Eagles (38-25) hold a current six-game winning streak, after going 5-0 last week. One of those wins was an 11-10 come-from-behind victory at Tulane last Tuesday, which included a ninth-inning, two-run homer from Slade Wilks to tie the game, quickly followed by a go-ahead blast from Christopher Sargent which sealed the win for the visitors.
Southern Miss has now beaten Tulane (13-31) three-straight times since the series was resumed last season after a three-year hiatus.
Over the last seven games, the Golden Eagle offense has posted 10 or more hits six times and have collected a .340 team batting average over that span (83-for-244) with 19 doubles, two triples and 17 home runs that have accounted for 72 runs.
The Golden Eagles have used the long ball 17 home runs over the last six games and 26 over the last 12 contests, including a season-best five last Sunday against Arkansas State. Wilks leads the way in home runs for the Golden Eagles with 17, while Sargent is next with nine on the year.
Dustin Dickerson paces the team in hitting with a .345 average. He batted .500 last week (8-for-16) and has hit safely in each of the last five games. During the Arkansas State series, he reached base on 13 of 15 plate appearances. His offensive production included two doubles giving him 55 for his career, putting him in a seventh-place tie on the Golden Eagle career chart for two-base hits.
Following the Tulane game, the Golden Eagles welcome South Alabama for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series starting Friday at 6 p.m.
