Women's Tennis Drops Pair of Road Matches

BOONE, N.C. --The Southern Miss women's tennis team (6-10, 1-8 Sun Belt) competed in Huntington, W.Va., and Boone, N.C., this weekend and fell to conference foes Marshall (13-6, 7-2 Sun Belt) and App State (10-6, 7-2 Sun Belt). The Golden Eagles were defeated 4-1 by the Thundering Herd, while the Mountaineers defeated them 6-1.
Johanna Strom and Emma Vanderheyden defeated Alyssa Richter and Ebru Zeynep Yazgan in doubles 6-4. Marshall's Gabrielle Clariotte and Rieke Gillar won the doubles point for the Herd with a 6-3 victory over Southern Miss' Suhana Das and Zenn Lim. The lone point and singles victory for the Golden Eagles came from Suhana Das. The Malaysia native defeated Emma Vanderheyden by finding matching pairs of 6-3; Das recorded her third singles win of the season.
Ebru Zeynep Yazgan and Alyssa Richter led the Black and Gold to win the doubles point on Sunday by defeating Ellie Murphy and Savannah DadaMascoll 6-3 at the No.1 spot. Shortly after, Helena Jansen and Erika Dodridge were upset by Clara Tardivel and Maddison Ricardo by a score of 6-3. Despite this lead, the Mountaineers would go on to win six straight singles victories.

The Southern Miss women's tennis team will continue play on the road in Mobile, Ala. April 15 against South Alabama before returning home for their last match of regular season against Arkansas State.
